Woods Lawn Mowers
In 1946, three brothers, Leonard, Mervel and Keith Wood mounted a rotary tiller on a tractor. It was the birth of Woods Equipment Company. Since these small beginnings in Oregon, Illinois, Woods has carved a strong niche in the agricultural implement manufacturing, lawn and turf care and light construction businesses. On the way, it has absorbed several different companies including Alitec, BMP, Gannon, Wain-Roy, Central Fabricators, Gill and Tisco.

The lawn and garden or turf and landscape aspect of Woods focuses mainly on the industrial or commercial clients. Woods products appeal to individuals with large jobs to do and not a lot of time to do them in. They manufacture undermount mowers, finish mowers, rotary cutters and riding mowers. A significant amount of their equipment, including the prestigious Estate series, is dependant upon other vehicles to pull them around the lawn or landscape. Woods, however, does produce a few lawn mowers for residential usage. These are riding mowers.
The Woods Estate series includes rotary cutters. RCC42 is a compact, single spindle rotary cutter. It can chop through brush up to one-inch thick. It has a 62-inch gearbox and slices through grass, weeds and brush of heights as great as nine-inches. Its cutting spread covers 42-inches. It is durable. Like other Woods' products, it has to be able to take the punishment of rough land usage. Like Batwings, which can cut brush up to three-inches thick and has a cutting width of 162 or 240-inches, depending upon the model, the RCC42 cannot operate alone. These machines require an ATV or larger vehicle such as a tractor to pull them along.
The same principle holds true for Woods line of finishing mowers. Models, such as the RDC54, RD60 and RD 72, are pulled by a tough vehicle around the property. These finish mowers are designed to close mowing, providing a smooth, uniform, finishing touch even around obstacles.
Woods durable products also include riding mowers, a few residential, most commercial. These mowers are front and mid-mount with zero-turn. The FE series features Pro decks with TrueFloat. The cutting deck is 52 or 61-inches.
