It took me a while to find out information on the Craftsman lawn mower company, and it answered a lot of questions about their quality and their support when I found out the answer. Craftsman is a brand owned and created by Sears for all the tools they make. Sears is a large chain store in the US

that specializes in selling everything. They employee a variety of companies to make their tools which explains why quality varies and they are more interested in selling that supporting or producing a high quality product. The name was reportedly bought for $500 from the Marion-Craftsman Tool company which the company’s head of hardware liked. It's listed as their 'premier' brand but a company that sells everything doesn't pay attention to the details and the 14 year old behind the counter that was working in hair care last week doesn't have the knowledge to help you. |

Common Problems
Craftsman seems to bit a bit of a hobby mower. They are cheap and they have the features but there always seems to be a raft of odd little problems. There is such a wide range of issues and such they seem so common I'm not keen on starting to list them all out. The best thing I can compare it to is those $20 drills you see on the shelfs of hardware stores. They look OK, they have all the same features and bugger it for $20 you can just get another one if it's not great. But you get it home and its missing bits, broken or breaks after the first use. You know the ones I mean. My advice is steer clear and get a mower that will last and that you can get some helpful service on when things go wrong. If you are going to get them at least get them as cheap as you can, try here
More recently, well a few years ago, the Craftsman lawn mower company got into trouble for advertising "Made in USA" when apparently only the final assembly is done in the USA.
