About Ariens Lawn Mowers

Established in 1933 in Brillion, Wis., Ariens Company is a leading manufacturer of outdoor power equipment for both consumer and commercial use. President Dan Ariens, the great-grandson of company founder Henry Ariens, continues to build on a long history of manufacturing premium-quality products.

The company's brands include Ariens Sno-Thro® and Ariens zero-turn mowers for consumers, and Gravely® commercial lawn equipment for professional landscape contractors. Ariens' affiliate, Stens Corporation, supplies replacement parts to the outdoor power equipment industry.
Electric Version Released!
Ariens has started producing an all-electric riding lawn mower with as much power but half the noise. This is a first for the mower market and a good moved and I would be surprised to see other companies following suit. It has it's draw back though, a hefty price tag and a 16 hour charge time. But With 75 mins of mowing per change you should be fine to do the average house. But with Mower's much worse polluters than cars I think it's a great move for Ariens and the industry in general. Ariens is selling these in Canada and the US at the moment and I'm sure it won't be long before the rest of the world has a chance at them.
Common Problems
There seems to be a rash of random complaints about problems with Ariens machines. They have had a few recalls in their past (Fuel leaks - doesn't sound good) and their production seems a bit hit and miss ( machines seem to leave the factory with a problem or two randomly). Those that get a good one are normally happy with them and yes you hear the 'had one working for 20 years' stories but with this many random problems out there I would be making sure I got a warranty and gave it a good work out. And don't be too shocked to take it back for a replacement.

On the side - Ariens Snowblowers
Aside from mowers Ariens also produces a range of snowblowers for which they are very well known. The use the same great engines as they use in their lawnmowers but to scrape snow from your paths and drives and shoot it off to the side. While their mowers get mixed review their snowblowers seem to be very popular on the market (aside from the one off product re-call due to a fuels leak.
